Father-Daughter Bonding
October 23, 2009
Tatang took me to San Lazaro Racing Park to watch Hakuna Matata run. Before we went to the grand stand to watch, we first went to the stables. I got to see Hakuna Matata (she’s pretty!). Then we went to see Blue Sheik and the others. I absolutely adore Blue Sheik (he’s so friendly :D). He licked and nibbled on my arm. Hehe. Barrain was mean as usual – just pass by her stall and her ears automatically flick back. Blue Seal, Smashing Success and Red Ransom were there also. There were other horses but since the names weren’t up I couldn’t exactly remember them. I should take pictures the next time I go there.
So I learned a lot from Tatang today. Before, he never really wanted to talk about betting and the races. I guess now that I’m near graduating and doing thesis on horses, he’s more open about racing and such.
Lessons learned:
1. Horse Ranks
-there are 15 groups. Group 1 is the lousiest group and 15 being the best. Horses move rank each time they win first place (or was it also 2nd-3rd place?).
-each always starts at 54 kg (total jockey weight and saddle plus other paraphernalia)
-if you win first, you go up a group
-if you win second, you add 1 kg
-if you win third, you minus half kg
-if you win fourth and lower, you minus 1 kg
-basically, if you reach 52 kg then you go down a group
2. Jockey Ranks
-there are Class A, B, and C jockeys
-you have to tell the trainer which jockey you want to race your horse
3. Tips
a. there’s a Mr. Blue, Mr. White and Mr. Yellow
· it looks like “B 3-2-9-6-4”, “W 3-9-7-5-2” and “Y 3-4-9-5-2”
· those numbers stand for which horses they think will win
b. there’s the stars before each horse
· those also signify which horse will most likely win
4. The stuff on the Dividendazo
a. Horse Name m8b 19
· Male 8 years old bay 19 (last race run)
o Look at last race run: ABCD stands for the most bets received
o X after the name means it came from behind
b. Jockey name j b guce 53.5 A
· The 53.5 is the weight
· J b guce is the name
· A is probably the class
5. Betting
a. Forecast
· pick one race and pick who’ll win first place
b. Trifecta
· Pick the first, second, third placers in one race
c. Quartet
· Pick the first-4th place in one race
d. Pentafecta
· Pick the first-5th place in one race
e. Winner Take All
· Pick winners in all races
o Tatang said that if you pay by combination. If there are seven races and you pick 2 horses per race then the possible combination is 27 which equals 128. The each ticket is 2 pesos so 128 x 2 = 256 pesos in total for the bet.
f. Daily Double (DD)
· Pick winners from two consecutive races
g. Daily Double + 1 (DD + 1)
· Pick winners from three consecutive races
h. XD (1-3)
· Pick winners from race 1 and 3
· If its XD 2-4 then from race 2 and 4
*Correct me if I'm wrong or if I missed a few details. Was too enthralled with the racetrack to really remember everything Tatang said. Hehe.

Yesterday, Tatang I went bonding again even if for just a short time. He agreed to get me my school books over Amazon. I decided to accompany Tatang to glorietta to get a new pair of reading glasses. I thought he’d only get one pair but ended up get 4 because he has a habit of losing the glasses since he takes them everywhere. We then went to Landmark since Tatang wanted to eat. He said he wanted putok in French Baker. So as we were heading to the bakery, he decided to go inside the grocery and buy razors since he didn’t have anymore. Schik was the only one on display near the counter and he didn’t like that so he changed his mind again and went for the bakery. Since French Baker was a little farther to the right he settled for Fortune I think. And he changed his mind again. Instead of getting putok, he got two pandesals stuffed with corned beef and bought buko pandan from Fruit Magic to wash it down. I ended up getting Soy Magic: Almond Nut.
Then we went upstairs to wait for Kuya Charlie to pick us up. Then he spotted Lapids and declared that he wanted to eat chicharon. He asked the Lapid’s girl which was cheapest one without fat. So that was the Php 33.00 pack.
He only realized that there was vinegar in the plastic when we were already home and just about finished with the chicharon.
That was when Tatang decided to take a nap which lasted till 12 am since he and mom are still kinda jet lagged.
Actually, it was a good thing I went with Tatang since I needed a break from my thesis writing. Its driving me crazy! Boleng had to coach me through it majority of the time. Huhu. I still need extra research using Patho notes and I need to conduct an interview with one of the commissioners in the Philippine Racing Commission.
Then the Filanaserve people aren’t very helpful. Doc Amie isn’t replying since I need to ask about the specs of the spectrophotometer in the Physio lab. Doc Rina doesn’t want to hand out her sun number according to Sid so I cant contact the former.
Waaaah!
